Ultrasonic sensors assist in packing of fresh flowers

The application fields of ultrasonic sensors are multilateral

Fresh cut flowers that are shipped internationally in large quantities, must be fresh, but still efficiently processed and packaged very gently. In a flower-packing machine it has to be detected when a bunch of flowers is ready in the tub for packing. An ultrasonic sensor of the UFA series looks down from above on the flowers and outputs a "present / not present" signal. The ultrasonic sensor was chosen because it is able to detect the very different shapes, colors and textures of the flowers reliably.

Why ultrasound?
- independent of material, surface, colour, size
- works under dust, dirt, fog, bright light
- detects transparent and shining objects
- wide measuring ranges from few mm up to 5m

Ultrasonic sensors for wood chip level control

Wood chip or wood pellet heating systems are modern CO2-neutral biomass heating systems for both private and large industrial plants. As the volume consumption is relatively large compared to liquid fuels, the knowledge of the current level is particularly important. For large industrial heaters the feed quantity has to be controlled and thus measured as well.

Conventional simple level gauges are often overstretched because of the dirty and dusty environment in a tank or on a chip-conveyor belt. Whereas ultrasonic sensors measure reliably even in dusty air and with polluted membrane. Wood pellets are pressed sawdust with no additives. They are particularly suitable for home heating. Wood chips are used mainly in agriculture and industry, where wood residues are available almost for free.

Best suited ultrasonic sensors for this application are the UFA or the UN Series.

Ultrasonic sensors for quality testing of fleece

Fleece is a nonwoven fabric of individual fibers. It consists of loose fibers, which are not linked. The strength of a fleece is based only on the fiber's own adhesion, but it can be influenced by further processing. To be able to handle and use the fleece, it must be reinforced, for which various methods can be applied. Nonwoven fabrics are used for example in various hygiene articles.

To control the desired compression of the material in production one can measure its sound permeability. The denser the material, the more impermeable it is for sound. With the
ultrasonic fork sensors type UBA-A of WayCon good and reproducible results are achieved. The sensor output is directly an analogue signal which is a function of the accoustic permeability of the fabric which passes between the transmitter and receiver of the sensor. The sensor is very fast, thus it works even with fast moving material webs. Applications...

Magnetostrictive Transducers with SSI Interface have been renewed

The series of magnetostrictive transducers with SSI interface have been renewed, increasing performance to satisfy market demands. The electronics has been completely redesigned to improve the linearity and communication of all models. Among the principal innovations is the new “internal linearization” option, which provides linearity up to 4 times higher than the standard version by performing linearity compensation in the electronics.

The entire SSI series has been given new electronics compatible with EMC standards and is more resistant to power surges. The reduction in overall noise improves transducer communication. In addition, the communication structure has been aligned in all versions (with and without the oversampling algorithm), making the entire series more compatible with SSI sensors made by other companies.

With regard to technical specifications, maximum working temperature has been raised to 90°C and current input has been halved, dropping to 50 mA, the lowest level on the market for this product!

Ultrasonic fork sensors for web guide and edge control

The new edge sensors type UBA with ultrasonic through beam sensors. New software algorhythms and a unique ultrasonic transducer material allow an accuracy and temperature stability so far only realized with optical systems. But the ultrasonic fork barrier is much less sensitive to dirt and dust compared to optical sensors. Further more transparent materials such as foils can be perfectly handled. The so called plane change error has been minimized to almost zero. Together with the high sampling speed of the sensor this means that fast moving and thus fluttering webs are well aligned.

The sensor can ideally be adjusted to the actual air conditions by the help of the teach-in function. Furthermore acoustically transparent materials such as textiles can be measured. With teach-in the signal output can be defined at fully closed as well as at fully open fork. In addition, the output signal can also be inverted via teach-in. The new sensors can be teached by push buttons or through the connector. 3 LED indicate the actual position in 5 steps.

Application of Draw Wire Transducers in a burial monument

An ancient burial monument ca. 300 BC, was unearthed 100 years ago in the near of Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece. Over the years the monumnet is becoming unstable due to ground erosion. A solution to stabilize the monument was needed. The responsible Division of the Ministry of Culture appointed the company „Neotek“ a greek distributor of WayCon Positionsmesstechnik GmbH in Germany to find a solution.

To accomplish this project, an accurat measurement system was necessary to collect the relevant data. Various draw wire transducers from the series SX are connected to a self-standing data logger and a battery box. Power is conserved by a timing switch. The Waycon displacement transducers monitor structural deformations and convergences. Readings are taken every 6 hours.  more pictures, slideshow

THE NEW INTERFACE OF MG40 SERIES - HIGH-SPEED AND RELIABLE DATA TRANSFER

Sony presents the new high-speed interface MG40 for connecting up to 100 gauges for fast quality control in production!

The new MG40 series with EtherNet interface is characterized by its response speed which is 20 times faster than the response speed of our previous model. The MG40 Series is able to read-out up to 10.000 measurements per second of 100 gauges simultaneously.

Therefore the MG40 Series allows flexible and multi-point measuring with gauges in dynamic and static measuring applications. Because of its modular construction, the multi-interface unit MG40 can be easily mounted to a standard DIN rail (35 mm), requires minimal wiring and can be easily expanded for future upgrades. Additionally, the MG40 Series allows the evaluation of peak values (P-P, MAX, MIN), comparator values and internal allocations (Add/SUB) of channels.
The MG series is compatible with
gauges of the DK800A/B Series as well as with our DK10/25/50/100/155/205 gauges. Therefore, the new MG40 Series together with Sony’s DK gauges are especially suitable for measuring applications in harsh environment in the production.

Waycon sensors in biogas plants

"Measurement for a demanding branch"

The industrial sector environment makes high demands on the sensor technology. In biogas plats worldwide, draw wires are favored to measure the exact fill level of each tank. To avoid the high effort of a inside installation, the sensor is installed on the outside of the tank. Through this many advantages arise:

- an explosion prevention is not necessary

- on the spot control of the fill level from the gasholder, because the mechanical hub of the foil is routed outwards

- direct accessibility of the sensor is given

- fast and simple installation
